About Me

Making a Difference

For many years, I always kept my political preferences to myself. I didn’t tell people who I was voting for in upcoming elections because I was afraid I would be judged negatively. However, everything changed during the 2016 presidential election cycle. I supported one of the candidates wholeheartedly. Because I felt this person could make a positive difference in my country, I shared my support of him on social media outlets. I encouraged my family and friends to vote for him. I even wrote blogs outlining my preferred candidate’s strengths. On this blog, I hope you will discover the importance of publicly supporting a political candidate. Enjoy!

Tips For Supporting A Congressional Candidate

by Kirk Ramirez

The more that you learn about the political process, the more you will see that you have a role in it at every step of the way. People often have passionate feelings about presidential races but forget to support the candidates that are running for other positions — such as congressional seats. So many of these elections are up for grabs each year without voters truly making themselves aware of the issues.

You owe it to yourself to get involved this time around by supporting a congressional candidate that you believe in. With this in mind, read on to learn how you can get politically involved and make a difference.

Get to know the party as a whole and your candidate's role in it

Your first step should be learning how the political system and process works. This means getting a basic understanding of the Democratic and Republican Parties and figuring out ideologically which party you would like to support. While the presidential election is important, the congressional seats play a role in how bills get passed and what level of influence the president has.

If you'd like to support the Democratic Party, for instance, you need to get to know which democratic candidate for congress in your area you would like to support. From there you will be able to learn the issues that they are running on and which you would like to spread the word about. For instance, one candidate might push things like education and cannabis legalization, while others are more attuned to things like climate change and technology. Figure out which candidates are running and what you should know about them.

Volunteer with the campaign and help get the word out

To really spend time participating in the political process, you should consider volunteering with a campaign. By getting to work up close and personal with a candidate and those that help put the campaign together, you will truly get an idea of how the process works. You might even find that you have some political aspirations of your own.

Make sure that you also get active on social media and take time to blog about the issues whenever you can. Participate in political activities and continue networking until you learn all that you can about both the candidate and the party as a whole.

Follow these tips and make sure that you stay abreast of the issues as you support your congressional candidate.
